Kyle Honeycutt joins the Upper Iowa softball program as the assistant coach in 2023. Honeycutt and his wife coached the Yellow Jackets at Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D during the 2022-23 seasons.
Priot to UIU, Honeycutt was a part of the Yellow Jacket staff in July 2021 as Assistant Softball Coach, while also serving as the Assistant Director of Events and Internal Operations in 2022.
Before his time at BHSU, Honeycutt was the Assistant Softball Coach at the University of Nebraska-Kearney from 2019-21.
In his time there, Honeycutt instituted a structured hitting program in the fall of 2019 and UNK managed a .324 team batting average during the shortened 2020 season. That included two players batting over .425, 63 extra base hits and an average of 5.6 runs a game.
In that time, from 2018-21, he also served as a head coach and hitting instructor with the Central Nebraska Baseball Academy where he coached travel teams, conducted hitting lessons, and assisted with rosters, budgeting and finances.
Before that, Honeycutt was a graduate assistant baseball coach at Nebraska-Kearney where he mainly worked with hitters while assisting with recruiting and day-to-day operations.
Honeycutt was also a student-athlete with Nebraska-Kearney as a member of the baseball team from 2011-16. During his time there, he appeared in 102 games between 2013-16 as an outfielder and first baseman and was a four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll qualifier and a 2016 All-MIAA Honorable mention.
Honeycutt holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in education from Nebraksa-Kearney.
